Mash - Collisions

Submitted by naomi on December 23, 2006 - 12:08pm.

Every issue, Capital locates a guest editor to fill our mash section. Although we certainly work with them in developing the content they provide, the vision is entirely theirs, and the product will ultimately reflect the work of the guest editor, and not the Capital staff. This can be done on virtually any topic, and can be displayed via any medium that we are able to effectively display on the site.

Through finding these monthly curators, we are able to expand the breadth of our coverage. We are interested in original ideas, with thought provoking, revealing, quality work. If you are interested in being one of these editors, please click here to read about the requirements.

This month's guest curator is Greg Liburd. Read more

LAST MONTHí¢â‚¬â„¢S EDITOR: THE NEW FORMS FESTIVAL

Since this is our first issue back, we decided on a curator that is not a person, but instead a festival. This festival just so happens to be our closely affiliated entity, the New Forms Festival. Is this a bit biased and self-promotional? Perhaps. However, the festival is full of innovative ideas, people and projects, that we hope our first edition of Mash will do some justice.

Profile: New Forms happens in Vancouver every year in mid September, and has done so for about six years now. Its focus is Art and New Media, displayed through a gallery installation, performance art, roundtable discussions and four nights of live electronic music and visuals. The theme of this yearí¢â‚¬â„¢s festival is Transformations: the convergence of media art, electronic music and the exploration of culture, showcasing a number of artists from across the globe whose work exemplifies this theme.
