Cartelera House - Introduction
In Vancouverí’s Mount Pleasant, an area where artists are continually losing their workspaces to 2010 fueled gentrification, a group of 14 artists have found a new place to call their own.
In February 2007 Cartelera Talent House opened its doors. Partners Graeme Berglund, Jeff Petry, Abbas Ahkavan and David Duprey acquired 2500 square feet of space in a retired garment factory and spent a month refitting the space to suit their needs. When word was put out that space was available for rent in this upcoming studio; the phone rang off the hook. This allowed the opportunity to hand pick artists based on quality of work and diversity of discipline.
When the dust settled it became apparent that this was more than just a standard art studio, this crew had some mad talent. The artists in this space have come together to work both as a collective and as independents with several collaborative efforts already underway. We encompass a massive set of skills and we are for hire.
